Intervention Design Re-presenting the Historic and Cultural Importance of Hartwick Seminary

We were invited in 2017 to provide consultation to the development of a site where Hartwick Seminary was once situated but demolished in 1946. Built in 1816, the Seminary was the first Lutheran seminary in the US history. The community was seeking a plan to express its collective memory and a structure for the present use. Prof. Leung of SUNY Oneonta led a group of students to conduct the study and Raymond of GAP Architects advised the proposed design. The bridge, which symbolizes the development from the past to the present and the westward migration path to the Frontier, connects the Church and the proposed community center. The Hartwick Town Board has already accepted the proposal.
