Our Story

GAP Architects was founded by Raymond RIBA MRICS HKIA who possesses diverse and international experiences. In the early 21st century, he started his professional career at the Rome office of Massimiliano Fuksus Architetto in Italy, participated in the designs of Milan Fair (Fiera de Milano) complex vortex-shaped roof and various European projects.

The profound interests of complex geometry thereafter led him to work as a 3D geometry specialist at AKT, a design-led structural and civil engineering firm in London. Acting as a linkage between architects and engineers for three-and-a-half years, he was one of the founders of Parametric Applied and Research Team (p.art) which aimed for solving problems using parametric methodologies in order to push the feasibility of the projects with complex geometries from various world-renowned architectural firms.

Raymond subsequently joined London-based Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) for close to five years. As a lead designer and lead architect, he participated in various projects from Dubai to China. The ingenuity of the fluid forms of ZHA projects enabled his parametric and structural experiences to be fruitfully implemented.

Spearheaded by Raymond, GAP Architects is in full operation since 2012, mounting up to its diverse project portfolios that encompass multiple fields including master planning and architecture, urban renewal, infrastructure, interior, product, furniture, installation, marketing and visual identity, BIM+ with customizable solutions. The progressive designs had earned GAP Architects numerous top rankings and awards.

Besides the multifaceted project experiences, Raymond has been actively involved in educational undertakings in various institutes including the research studios of Architectural Association (AA), the workshops of “Non-Linear Architecture and Parametric Design” hosted in Tsinghua University. Raymond was the unit master of Studio 4 in Laboratory of Computational Design (LCD) in Beijing. He also coached the BIM workshop in Hong Kong University School of Architecture and was appointed as adjunct professor at Tongji University Urban Planning and Architecture Department in Shanghai.

Raymond co-founded the research-based 4C5M Studio (www.4c5mstudio.org) to research and theorize the reciprocal relationships between research and practice, between sociological phenomenon and spatial manifestations. Resided in Canada, UK, Italy, Austria, and various cities of China, the environments and cultural diversities, his educational and professional lineages have been shaping Raymond’s unique experiences and insights of the complex and interwoven relationships between eastern and western cultures—both analogue and digital.
